French Bread Margherita Pizzas

French Bread Margherita Pizzas

If you’re cutting carbs, go ahead and skip this recipe! I love pizza in any form, and I love French bread in any form…combine the two together, and you’ve got one powerhouse meal going on. When drizzled with olive oil + sprinkled with garlic powder and baked in the oven, the French bread gets so incredibly crispy and even more delectable than usual.

We went with simple toppings for this recipe — jarred marinara sauce, mozzarella pearls, red onions and fresh basil — but feel free to go with whatever topics you want. I personally love to pair pesto with feta, red onions, kalamata olives and banana peppers for a Greek-inspired treat.

The best part? These pizzas are ready in less than 20 minutes! When you’re in need of a delicious homemade meal but have less time than an episode of “Parks & Recreation,” then these French Bread Margherita Pizzas are for you.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 loaf of French bread, cut lengthwise and in half

  • Jar of your favorite marinara sauce

  • Olive oil

  • Dried oregano

  • Garlic powder

  • Dried red pepper flakes

  • Mozzarella pearls

  • Red onions

  • Fresh basil, julienned

STEPS

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Place each piece of French bread, cut-side up, onto the parchment paper. Brush with a light layer of olive oil and sprinkle with a generous helping of garlic powder + dried oregano. Bake for five minutes.

  • Remove from the oven and spread a layer of marinara sauce over each piece of French bread. Sprinkle with red onions, top evenly with the mozzarella pearls and garnish with julienned basil. Sprinkle with additional red pepper flakes, if desired. Place back into the oven and cook until the cheese is melted, about 5-7 minutes.
